Jen's Testimonial
How long have you volunteered with Teesside Hospice?
About 2 and a half years
Which area of Teesside Hospice do you volunteer in and what do you do day to day?
Marske store. I sort through bags of donations, hang and steam clothes ready for pricing, and I make teas and coffees.
What is the reason you started to volunteer with Teesside Hospice?
I was widowed 3 years ago. My husband passed away on my Birthday after I had been married for 51 years. I felt as though I was in the house for so long during covid and afterwards, but I like to be out, so thought I would volunteer. And I’ve never looked back since.
What has your experience been like volunteering with Teesside Hospice?
Very good – I enjoy the people who work and volunteer here, and enjoy getting out for the morning 2 mornings a week. It is a good experience.
What has volunteering with Teesside Hospice done for you?
It has given me a purpose on a Monday and a Wednesday morning. It helps to keep me busy. I also enjoy coming in as I get along very well with the other ladies who volunteer. You know that it is doing something good and helping people.
Do you have any advice for potential Teesside Hospice volunteers?
Try it out and see if it is your cup of tea. And learn from your manager and other volunteers. When I started here I had never been in retail – I didn’t even know how to dress a mannequin. I have learned how to do everything in the store, so be open to learning new things.
THANK YOU! To Jen, and all of our volunteers.
