You may feel like you're just doing your bit, but the help you provide is vital. We understand how this can sometimes affect you physically, emotionally and financially and we are here to support you.

Carer Support at Teesside Hospice

You may be helping a friend or relative with their shopping, medication or providing ‘hands on’ care as a natural part of your relationship as a partner, parent, son, or daughter for example. Many people who are caring for others don’t recognise themselves as a ‘carer’. However, you may not realise that you have a number of ‘rights’ as a carer and could be entitled to a range of support services / benefits.

Carer Support Groups at Teesside Hospice

We offer two groups each month, open to carers who are supporting someone diagnosed with a life-limiting condition. This is a safe supportive space in which you can talk about anything that matters to you or concerns you. Although the group will include a range of people, you will all share the common bond of caring for someone with a terminal illness.

‘’Care for a Coffee’’ is a social group for carers, meeting on the first Thursday of each month, 10.30 – 12 noon. This group is very informal, providing the opportunity to meet others in a similar position and have a chat over a cuppa. We meet in the training room in the Counselling Building on site at Teesside Hospice, but you can also join us via Microsoft Teams for people who are unable to attend in person.

We also offer monthly ‘’Care and Share’’ learning sessions for carers on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, meeting at 1.30-2.30pm, offering information on a wide range of topics to support you in your caring role. Sessions are held in the training room in the Counselling Building on site at Teesside Hospice and you can attend in person or via Microsoft Teams.
