During Make a Will Month, you can make a lasting difference for patients like Andy, who are receiving care in our inpatient unit.

We've partnered with expert will writers Octopus Legacy, to make giving a gift in your will to Teesside Hospice even easier.

"My name’s Andrew, I’m from Redcar, and I came to Teesside Hospice for respite care, referred by a Macmillan nurse.

I’ve been living with prostate cancer for the past 20 months. My dad and I were diagnosed at the same time - he improved, but unfortunately, I have the BRCA2 gene, which has caused my cancer to spread significantly throughout my body.

Coming to the hospice, I wasn’t sure what to expect. You hear the word ‘hospice,’ and your mind assumes the worst. But my experience here has been anything but that. This visit has been a significant step forward for me in terms of managing my pain.

The holistic care team here has been amazing. They’ve helped me not only with pain relief but also introduced me to complementary therapies that have been a huge help in teaching me how to relax.

My cancer has spread to my lymph nodes, kidneys, bladder, bone marrow, and spine. Despite how complex my condition is, the team has provided me with such personalised care.

When you go into a hospital it’s scary enough, and everything is quite regimented as it has to be, but here, because you have more one-on- one care, you’re able to access more. I wouldn't say it's a fun place to be, but it's bright, cheery, and you can feel reassured that you're going to be looked after on a personal level.

If you’re feeling nervous about hospices, I encourage you to visit and look around to see all they have to offer. It’s the best thing you can do. For me, this is the right place to be.”

By making a will with us this month, you can help provide the same care and comfort to more people like Andy who are living with a terminal illness in Teesside.
