Janet’s Volunteering Story
Janet is one of our wonderful meal service volunteers, gifting her time to serve lunches to our in-patients. Here she shares how she became involved with Teesside Hospice, and what she enjoys about her role.
Jen shared “My little lavender hearts have raised a super duper £1,037.27 for the wonderful Teesside Hospice!
I honestly can’t believe it. I’m so pleased, and I know my Aunty Kay would be so proud. I handed in my raised funds on what would have been her 60th birthday, and this feels like such a positive and meaningful way to remember her. She would be ever so chuffed.
Every heart purchased has meant so much, and I’m incredibly grateful for all the donations to my project too.”
We’d like to wish a huge thank you to Jen for all her support in carrying on her Aunty Kay’s wishes of supporting Teesside Hospice.

Previously, when Donna thought of the word hospice, she thought of dying – but that association changed after she became a patient. Donna shares how a stay on our In-Patient Unit has given her confidence and changed her misconceptions around hospice care.
Whether you’re looking to gain new skills or build on those you already have, volunteering can be a great way to broaden your knowledge. For Charlotte, who volunteers in our People Team, it was about building on the knowledge she’d gained on a recent course.
