Local Boro fans and writers come together to support Teesside Hospice

Rob Fletcher and a team of Boro fans and writers have been working really hard through lockdown, to produce the first edition of Boro Mag.

The brand new, digital magazine, has been created to allow fans to reminisce on the 'nostalgia, glory, heartbreak and joy' of being a Boro fan, whilst supporting Teesside Hospice with every download of the first edition.

The magazine, which launched in May, can be downloaded online for £3, with all proceeds going directly to Teesside Hospice.

To date, there have been over 300 downloads of the magazine and £784.84 raised. Thank you!

We spoke to Boro Mag's Editor, Rob Fletcher about where the idea came from and why the team decided to support us:

"At the start of lockdown I had an idea to bring Boro fans together and produce a fan created magazine about the club. I think this would allow fans during this period to reminisce about some of the glory days. This would be especially important as football would not restart for a long period.

Early in the process I brought together a range of writers and bloggers and we set to work on issue one. After enlisting my sister Kirsty to design the magazine I knew it would have a professional look. As we started the project we all agreed that we should donate all proceeds to a local charity. After discussion we thought Teesside Hospice would be a fantastic charity to support with issue one. We knew that Boro fans would get behind such a great cause too.

When the magazine was released we received really positive feedback and have gone on to sell over 300 magazines. People have been really generous with their positive feedback and it has made the team very proud. As a project dedicated to connecting fans and supporting a local charity we are delighted with the money we’ve been able to raise.

Teesside Hospice is such a huge part of the community and the services it provides are vital. In times such as these, we all need to make sure we are supporting the most vulnerable and we are happy to have been able to help in our own way."

Boro Mag is a new quarterly magazine written by Boro fans. It features long form articles about the stories, players and issues from the club’s history. Covering topics from the current season right back to the turn of the century, there are articles that cover all periods of the club’s history. The next issue will be released in August.

Thank you to Boro Mag and every one who has downloaded their copy. We are so proud to be part of this community! #UTB
