A Day in the Life of our Cafe Volunteers

The Mayor of Middlesbrough has paid a visit to Teesside Hospice, to see first-hand the impact our services have on the local community.
Chris Cooke visited our hospice on Northgate Road for a tour of the facilities and to meet members of staff who deliver specialist care to patients in our Inpatient Unit, Lymphoedema Clinic, Wellbeing Centre and Bereavement Counselling Service.
During his visit, the Mayor was shown the recent refurbishments that have taken place in the hospice, including the new family room on our Inpatient Unit, which has been designed to offer families and loved ones a space to relax, make refreshments and feel some comfort while visiting loved ones.
Mayor Chris Cooke said: “It was a privilege to visit Teesside Hospice and witness first-hand the vital services they provide to our community. I also welcomed the opportunity to discuss how we can strengthen our partnership moving forward.
“The timing of this visit was particularly significant, following the Council’s Executive’s approval of the new Crisis and Resilience Fund. This includes support for families supporting loved ones receiving end-of-life care, alongside a wider package of support to help those facing the most challenging circumstances.”
Mike Thornicroft, Group CEO, shared his appreciation following the Mayor’s visit: “We’re really grateful that the Mayor took some time to visit the hospice and gain even more of an understanding of the services we provide and the impact our team have.
“I’m really proud of the work our teams do across both Teesside Hospice and Butterwick Hospice, and look forward to strengthening our relationship with the Mayor and the local Council as we aim to deliver our services to even more people across the region in partnership with organisations.”
The Mayor has previously supported Teesside Hospice at the recent opening of our Superstore, opening the store alongside Mike and influencer Jen Graham, AKA ‘Charity Shop Girl’.
