Trustees come from a variety of different backgrounds; each offering their own unique skills and perspectives to help the hospice. They work together as a team, helping to plan the strategic future of the hospice, as well as making policy decisions. They also make sure that the hospice is accountable to their beneficiaries, the Charity Commission and the general public.
Brian Footitt, Tony Waites and Ann O’Hanlon have retired from the board. Brian has chaired the board for 18 years, and dedicated many years to helping us grow and develop. Tony has dedicated a lengthy 26 years of service at the hospice, and was heavily involved with the Investment Committee, as well as being the Chair of the Trading Committee. Ann has been a Trustee for 7 years, and has been both a director of Trading and a Vice Chair of the board.
Elaine Criddle, who has an extensive history in a variety of NHS roles and has been a Trustee for over two years, has been elected as Chair.
Elaine said: “I’m really excited to be elected as Chair. I’m really looking forward to facing the opportunities and challenges ahead with optimism and enthusiasm with this fabulous charity.”
There are several new Trustees to the board’s existing five members, all bringing with them a wealth of experience and skills.
Tim Payne became a Trustee at the hospice in May this year, after joining the Teesside Hospice Trading Company in November 2017 to provide input on commercial support.
Also joining the board as new Trustees are Gary Whitehead, Jo Malone and John Dixon. Gary has a strong background in business development, whilst Jo brings with her many years of experience in Marketing and Communications and John is an Associate Dean at Teesside University with significant research experience.
In the New Year, we will be welcoming two further Trustees, Carol Langrick and John Sheridan to the board. Carol is currently working in the NHS in a leadership position, and John has clinical experience in leading palliative and end of life care.
David Smith, our Chief Executive said: “We are so grateful to all of our Trustees, and sincerely thank Brian, Tony and Ann for their many years of incredible service to Teesside Hospice. We wish them all the best for the future and they will be missed. We are really looking forward to working with Tim, Jo, John and Gary, alongside Carol and John in the new year, and can’t wait to see what they bring to the table. We also congratulate Elaine on her new position as Chair of the board. With our superb new board and growing partnerships, we’re starting 2020 in a strong place, working as a good team.”
