This Christmas, the Teesside community will shine brightly as Light Up a Life returns.

We understand how difficult it is to experience Christmas without our loved ones and, in turn, how important someone’s last Christmas is. Through Light Up a Life, we aim to bring the community together to remember our loved ones and also shine a light on the support we offer throughout the festive season.

Did you know, by donating £25, you can fund an hour of specialist nursing care? This can make a huge difference in helping our amazing team be there for people at the end of their lives this Christmas, ensuring people of Teesside have access to specialist care and support.

This care and compassion extends beyond our patients, and we’re here for families and loved ones too – something James, whose wife Marcelle was a patient at the hospice, will always be grateful for:

“Marcelle had already interacted with the hospice because for four years prior to her coming in here, she came to a support group. That’s how she got to know the hospice, that’s how she got to know some of the staff at the hospice, and that’s basically where she decided that this is the place she wanted to be.

I was amazed. From day one, I was absolutely amazed at the care level, the treatment, the love, the friendship, from top to bottom the staff – unbelievable.

There was this level of understanding that you were going through something that wasn’t very pleasant, but they just seemed to go out of their way to cheer you up. The level of treatment was unbelievable. I’ve never seen so many care staff through a door in one day and then were offering all kinds of treatments – head massage, reiki.

Christmas is a time of people and sharing and caring and families, and unfortunately there will be people here over Christmas. It’s a time of giving and what better thing to give to than Teesside Hospice.”

As part of the Light Up a Life campaign, we will provide a dedication for your loved one, which will be placed on the Christmas tree outside of our hospice on Northgate Road. Their name will also be featured in our Christmas Light up a Life Book of Memories located in our Reflection Room at Teesside Hospice.

By making a voluntary donation to the campaign, you’ll receive an invitation to one of our Light Up a Life services, taking place at Teesside Hospice on Sunday 14th December and St Barnabas Church on Friday 12th December.

You can also be part of the campaign by visiting our 8ft Light up a Life Community Trees in: Hillstreet Centre and Coulby Newham Parkway Centre. Each year, a constellation of stars with dedications of our loved ones twinkle brightly in the heart of our communities.
