Which areas of the Hospice could I volunteer for?
Roles at The Trading Company
In order to generate the additional funds required to operate the Hospice, our Trading Company is involved in a number of commercial ventures. Assistance is always required to undertake numerous administration duties, to sort goods and promote sales in our charity shops and work with our creative Fundraising Team. Perhaps you have an idea of your own to promote the work of the Hospice or to generate funds. Whatever your skills and experience, we're sure that we have a role to suit!
Charity Shops
Help is always needed in the shops, either working in the busy sorting and pricing area or as a sales assistant greeting and serving customers and helping on the till. Volunteers are also needed to help on one our three vans by delivering and loading donated goods.
Fundraising
Fundraising is an integral part of Teesside Hospice Care Foundation and has proved rewarding and enjoyable for our volunteers. Volunteering for fundraising does not mean standing rattling a collecting tin! - It can be fun and rewarding working a craft stall, tombola or helping with the Tree of Life.
Administration
Help is also needed on reception, for data entry and general administrative tasks such as photocopying and word processing at the Trading Company Offices on Linthorpe Road.
Roles at The Hospice
Driver
We need careful drivers with their own vehicle (taxed, tested & insured if applicable) to transport guests to Teesside Hospice from their home and for the return journey in the afternoon (Mon - Fri).
Receptionist
Volunteer receptionists deal with a variety of tasks including answering the telephone, welcoming visitors and guests, taking messages and forwarding them to the appropriate person and assisting visitors.
Day Care Assistant
This role is varied and will encourage social simulation, provide support and a listening ear for all the guests attending the day centre. Volunteers also make and serve cold and hot drinks throughout the day, serve the lunches and encourage guest participation to ensure their day has been fulfilling and enjoyable.
Inpatient Unit
As support to the nursing staff this role can be varied, dependant upon the need from day to day and week to week. Volunteering in the inpatient unit involves providing a warm and friendly atmosphere for the guests, assisting the nursing staff with patients, serving lunches and tea.
Sitting Service
Volunteering as a sitter involves sitting with a guest as company, while carers take some respite. This could be in the patients home or in the Inpatient Unit.
