Local man, William Heseltine has left £105,117.06 in his Will to Teesside Hospice and Cancer Research UK in memory of his wife Joyce who died of cancer 13 years ago.
It is believed the ex paratrooper who died in February aged 85, decided to support the two organisations after his wife spent some time in the Hospice.
Maureen Thompson, Chief Executive of Teesside Hospice, said: "We're delighted to have received such a generous legacy from Mr Heseltine's estate. His wife Joyce received care from Teesside Hospice prior to her death and this legacy fulfils her wish to benefit the two charities. This gift will be used to continue to offer specialist palliative care to local people suffering from advanced cancer and other life limiting illnesses.
To receive a substantial legacy gift such as £105,117.06 is staggering and will ensure our valuable local service continues to help the lives of over 3,000 individuals every year, free of charge."
