Comfort and Care

Six months ago we asked for your support so that we could buy 10 urgently needed specialist beds, to help our patients be rested and pain free. 

We have been overwhelmed with the response to the appeal, and we are so pleased to tell you that we have recently upgraded every single bed on our Inpatient Unit to newer, safer and more advanced beds. 

We couldn’t have done this without the support from our local community. Thank you.

A special message from Mandy Burns, Nurse Practitioner at Teesside Hospice…

“Hello, my name is Mandy, I’m a nurse at Teesside Hospice and six months ago, I asked for your help in buying the specialist beds we urgently needed for our Inpatient Unit.

The response to this appeal has been incredible, and thanks to your kindness we have recently been able to upgrade every one of the 10 beds on our Inpatient Unit, bringing comfort to those staying with us, when they need it the most.

The difference these beds will make to our patients is huge. Six months ago, myself and my colleagues were worrying about patients having skin lacerations and breathing problems, or having difficulty finding a comfortable position in bed. While we do everything we can to help our patients, now we know that with the right equipment and at the push of a button, we can easily adjust the beds to increase patients’ comfort and relieve pain.

For all of the nursing team here it’s fantastic for us to know that our patients are no longer in preventable pain or suffering from unnecessary discomfort. All of the team at the hospice are proud to care for the people of Teesside, and to see our community rally round us when we need them is remarkable.
