Lymphoedema
Primary lymphoedema exists where no cause as such is found, but can be associated with congenital defect or abnormality of lymph vessels.
Secondary lymphoedema exists when an underlying condition such as cancer or a treatment such as radiotherapy has impaired/destroyed the lymphatics.
The clinic is run to teach people how to manage their lymphoedema effectively, as there is no cure for the condition, although the earlier it is diagnosed, the more effectively the condition can be managed. The clinic is run on two days of the week - Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with medical, nursing and physiotherapy input.
Our Lymphoedema Team has set up the Teesside Area Lymphoedema Support Group (TEALS) who produce a quarterly newsletter. For further information please contact the Hospice on: 01642 816777.
